PTA News

Rivermont Families,

Thank you for engaging in an exciting year at Rivermont!

The PTA’s mission is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. With your support last school year 22-23, your PTA was able to purchase 4 new picnic tables for the school’s playground! This year we hope to help with the building of our very own outdoor classroom. Partner with our amazing volunteer committees to host family events such as STEAMFest and Math Mocha, this year we hope to bring you a Fall Festival! We will continue to launch the sign initiative fundraiser with local businesses while continuing to facilitate volunteer opportunities, create communication avenues and support and encourage involvement from the Rivermont community. After the challenges that were presented to us during COVID we have managed to start over and have come along way to continue our support with the school. It has been encouraging and inspiring to see our Rivermont families work together so wonderfully by finding ways to support our Tigers and each! Our great thanks from your PTA Board for everything you do to support and to ensure our children have the support and opportunities they deserve!

Best,

Yesica Villegas
President- Rivermont PTA

Rivermont Communication

Hamilton County Schools and Rivermont Administration communicate with families via email, phone calls and text messages. If you are not receiving this communication, please contact the school directly to make sure your correct contact information is on file.

Weekly E-newsletter: If you do not currently receive the Rivermont weekly e-newsletter, please email Ms. Kahla in the office to be added on.

ClassDojo: If you are not connected to your classroom(s) on ClassDojo, please contact your Teacher(s)

Facebook: Rivermont has a public Facebook page: Rivermont Elementary, a private group for Parents and Caregivers: Rivermont Elementary Parents and Caregivers, and private groups for each grade level: Rivermont Elementary Pre-K, Rivermont Elementary First Grade, etc

SignUp.com

Here at Rivermont Elementary we use a website called Signup.com to organize all of our Volunteer Opportunities that are available to parents.

Here’s how it works:

EVERY WEEK you will receive an e-mail, Class Dojo alert, AND there will be a post on the Rivermont Elementary Facebook page regarding what volunteer opportunities we have available.

When we have volunteer opportunities we need your help with, we will make an event on signup.com. The links to these events can be accessed through the e-mail, class Dojo, or Facebook post. We will clearly outline what the event is, what we need from you (help, food, etc), what day and time it is, and how many people we need to help.

If you are available to help with a specific event, you need to SIGN UP! It’s easy and the website will walk you through everything, step by step. You will be sent reminders about the event you have signed up for via signup.com.

Please note: YOU NEED TO CLAIM YOUR SPOT! Spots are limited, so please make sure you sign up through the website. This not only secures your spot, but it also lets us at the school know who is coming to help so we have an idea who to expect for security reasons. If for some reason you need to cancel call the school office at 423-870-0610.

Mindfulness Practices At Rivermont

Here at Rivermont Elementary School, every student gets the opportunity to practice mindfulness strategies with our mindfulness educator Ms. Knowles. Mindfulness is a scientifically-based approach to develop focused attention and emotional regulation. Mindfulness means paying attention in the present moment to our thoughts, feelings, bodily sensations, or surrounding environment. For the sake of simplicity, we can define it as noticing what’s happening right now. It also includes the intentional nurturing of positive states of mind such as empathy and kindness.

Ms. Knowles is a certified Mindful Educator through an organization called Mindful Schools.  She has also been an educator in various educational settings for 20+ years, working in classrooms with children and teachers! Ms. Knowles has been at Rivermont Elementary for many years teaching mindfulness.

You can check out this page for information on how we are incorporating mindfulness every day at Rivermont Elementary School!
